Pride and Prejudice
I. About the Novel
Pride and Prejudice is a novel of manners by Jane Austen, first published in 1813. The story follows the main character, Elizabeth Bennet, as she deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education, and marriage in the society of the landed gentry of the British Regency. Elizabeth is the second of five daughters of a country gentleman, Mr. Bennet, living in Longbourn. Set in England in the late 18th century, Pride and Prejudice tells the story of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet's five unmarried daughters after two gentlemen have moved into their neighbourhood: the rich and eligible Mr. Bingley, and his status-conscious friend, the even more rich and eligible Mr. Darcy. While Bingley takes an immediate liking to the eldest Bennet daughter, Jane, Darcy is disdainful of local society and repeatedly clashes with the Bennets' lively second daughter, Elizabeth.
Pride and Prejudice retains a fascination for modern readers, continuing near the top of lists of "most loved books". It has become one of the most popular novels in English literature, selling over 20 million copies, and receives considerable attention from literary scholars. Likewise, it has paved the way for archetypes that abound in many contemporary literature of our time. Modern interest in the book has resulted in a number of dramatic adaptations and an abundance of novels and stories imitating Austen's memorable characters or themes.

IV. My Reaction
A. Reaction Point - character
- An imaginary person represented in a work of fiction (play or film or story).
- Important characters in this story are Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Bennet, Mrs. Bennet, Jane Bennet, Mary Bennet, Catherine Bennet, Lydia Bennet, Mr. Darcy, Charles Bingley, Mr. Wickham, etc...
- The characters of this novel include many individual people. There were a lot of characters and it was slightly difficult and was confused.
B. Reaction Point - setting
- the set of facts or circumstances that surround a situation or event.
- There were few occupations that a woman could become independent, and, in the U.K. of the 18th century, it was assumed the happiness of the woman that I found a good marriage partner.
- Though five people are sister, it understands that the then marriage was tough that nobody is married.
C. Reaction Point - appeal
- It be attractive to.
- Elizabeth knows that oneself prejudiced against Darcy.
- Each other had Pride and Prejudice, but thinks that it was very good that I can understand it and was appealed.
D. My General Opinion
At first, Darcy and Elizabeth thought that it was not thrown off its reserve. However, Elizabeth whom I misunderstood could be identified as Darcy who had begun to become obedient and led to marriage.I love the scene holding a wedding ceremony with older sister and her husband very much. As for this novel, the development that I could not predict was interesting.
